Keratoconus
Keratoconus is a corneal disorder, where the surface of the eye thins and becomes distorted.Spectacles can often be used to correct the blur and distortion in the early stages of the condition, but their effectiveness weakens as the condition develops.
At Vantage Optometry, we therefore provide specialist contact lenses to correct the astigmatism and induced short-sightedness caused by keratoconus. For milder forms where spectacles no longer improve vision, we assess patients and provide custom-designed soft contact lenses to overcome the distortion. As the condition develops, tailor-made rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses are required to achieve optimal sight correction, which we also specialise in fitting.
